Violence and fear of violence should not be allowed to rule people's lives.

A recent international report published by children's charity Plan UK stated that almost half of girls living in the UK said they felt unsafe whilst out after dark. In the Midlands at least 10 per cent of those surveyed knew a friend who had been assaulted near their home in the past six months!
With government initiatives to reduce costs by reducing/turning off street lights and the increase in violent/sexual crimes within Leicestershire, how can we help to make it a safer environment for people? What can people do themselves to feel safe?
Learning how to protect yourself is definitely one answer but how do you chose what system to adopt?
It can be confusing for people to make sense of what self defence is really about with all Martial arts styles claiming to be the 'Self Defence expert'. Actual proven self defence has be grouped in with Martial arts when infact they are different - one is a proven method against all forms of attack whilst the other is one of many styles out here that can help you defend against specific kinds of attacks.
Martial arts can be broken down into 2 different areas:
• Combat sport - boxing, Jujitsu, wrestling, Judo etc
• Cultural fighting art - Kung Fu, Karate, Aikido etc
All are great training for self defence (teach discipline, fitness, confidence) but all have rules and are mainly responses to specific forms of attack. In a street attack it's a mess with no rules or referees with blows coming from any direction. Also, none of them have ever been proven to be affective against all forms of attack.
There is a definite need for a no-nonsense approach to practical Self defence without people having to join a club or have to choose a fighting style that is one of the many that claim to be the ultimate self defence system, whilst not proven so.
In our fast paced lives where time is precious, we need a self defence course that can provide Men and Women with an easy to use tool box of simple moves that can be utilised quickly and effectively to neutralise an attack.
The tool box should contain natural body movements that are uncomplicated and easy to remember especially when in a fear induced situation where our heart beat rate is above 150bpm and we are frightened for our lives.
Empower yourself with the knowledge and techniques that could someday save yours or your loved ones lives'.
